CINÉPHOTO

PHOTOGRAPHY BY FILM-MAKERS

| VIEW ONLINE EXHIBITION |

cinephoto

Cinema was born out of still photography and has an ongoing relationship with it. Many cinematographers and directors also take still photographs. Some do both as parallel careers; for others, the still photography is a private pastime. As still photography has evolved and developed technically, so has moving image photography. Both now share digital technology for example. Yet they are often seen as being different: experienced differently, practised by totally different sets of people.

This exhibition bring together photographs made by film directors, scenographers and cinematographers, none of whom are “known” as photographers but whose whole world is about making images.

Exhibition includes work by Dan Edelstyn and Hilary Powell, Anna Carrington, Djonny Chen, Islam El Azzazi, Isabelle Rodriguez, Gillian McIver, Jaime Armengol, Mohamed El Laymouni, Annaliese Holles, Tim Siddel.

CINÉPHOTO was exhibited as part of Photomonth, the East London Festival of Photography.

CINÉPHOTO is curated by Gillian McIver
